What a glorious opportunity it is today that school has been cancled…again…due to cold weather. I was just thinking that I really don’t get enough time with all six kids at home, at once, all in the same square footage, with the lucky break that it is too cold for them to go out to play or go anywhere. Days like these are few and far between (except for last Monday…and next Monday for grading day…and President’s day…and the last Fri of Feb. for conferences…and oh yeah that 18 day stint of winter break…). I think we will spend some quality time bonding:
Ah yes, what a beautiful day!
Cracked open a bottle of wine around noon today when I found out that school was canceled AGAIN tomorrow (perspective: the kids had 16 days off for winter break and then they had today off for extreme cold weather and now…now they have tomorrow off…need I say more?). My very resourceful teenager called to say, “Hey mom did you hear we don’t have school tomorrow again? (long pause while I picked myself up off the floor) and if it is still too cold on Wednesday they will have to cancel school the whole week ’cause you can’t have a 2 day school week.” (Not sure if that’s true or not, but the thought of it made me pour another glass).
“Hey, yeah, thanks for that info JOEY!” I could tell he was beaming at the other end of the phone.
You know that song “Heart and Soul”? I taught Lexi and Johnny how to play that on day 2 of winter break. They have been practicing…a lot. So I am going to sit here with my glass of wine at noon, listening to Heart and Soul…go ahead and judge!

I know this is Minnesota and we have crazy weather patterns but I have to laugh at the forecast for this big winter storm that is “supposedly” coming. So the one weather station wrote the report that said essentially it is going to rain, sleet or snow (not sure which) and we will get anywhere from 1-18 inches of snow. How vague is that? It made me think of the poor kid at circle time tomorrow whose gets the calendar job, “So Jimmy what’s it like out today? (The umbrella picture…no the snowman…where’s the sleet picture?…Ahhhh…too much pressure.)
The kids all think they are having a snow day tomorrow. My sources are a little shaky so we’ll just have to wait and see.
